Abstract

Abstract: Equestrian sport or horse riding is very popular because not only for sports or hobby, but also for entertainment. The performance racehorse of the is largely determined by the suitability of the characteristics of horseshoes material with horse's hooves. This paper describes the identification of materials and heat treatment process of horseshoe made in local and imported products. Previous publication suggests that horseshoe made in foreign countries provides better performance than domestic products, especially in terms of flexibility of horse motion, durability, speed, and lifetime. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research that emphasizes the observation of material characteristics, manufacturing and heat treatment process as a first step towards the substitution of imported products. A number of observations have been made on the two types of products:macro and micro observations, heat treatment process analyzes that have been subjected to materials, and mechanical testing. From the test results obtained that imported horseshoe material is low carbon steel with of 0.08 %, while carbon content for local product is 0.17%. Thus, both from the material side and from the side of manufacturing, including heat treatment process, local horseshoe products still need to be developed.

Abstract

Abstract: Hardness is one of the mechanical properties of a material. The hardness of a material must be known especially for materials which in its use will be suppressed and friction. To know the hardness value of the material then do hardness test by using tool of hardness tester. One method used to increase the hardness of the material is by thermal spray method. Thermal Spray is a coating technology of both metal and non-metal materials that dispray on the base with the intention of providing protection against wear or recondition of the application so that back to the original function and size. The objective of this research is to know the result of hardness of transmission rear cover of PT 2509 VOLVO A35E after reconditioning. This research was carried out in May until June 2016. The research took place at PT.Intraco Penta Pima Service located in Manggar area of Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The research object focused on the housing rear cover transmission of PT 2509 VOLVO A35 E which has been reconditioned with thermal spray method. In thermal spray, the material may be a powder, wire or rod and inserted into the flame of a spray gun. After the analysis, it is concluded that the hardness that occurs after the thermal spray process has changed which is about 30.88 HR which previously was at 10.32 HR. Influence that occurs to the parent metal undergoing the process of reconditioning, which in the presence of the recondition process that occurs there will be a change in the nature of material hardness on the rear cover of 199%.

Abstract

Abstract: Problems is faced by partners which is that limited skills, limited financial problems and limited support by various parties, such as government, private and universities. The team devotion from Teuku Umar University of Meulaboh made an activity to solve partner problems with giving some approach method that is giving and training of welding technique and managerial of business and opening of welding workshop. The location of partners is about 1 km from the Teuku Umar University campus in Ujong Tanoh Darat Village, Meureubo Sub-district, West Aceh District. The determination location of the welding workshop and the determination partners is based on the results of the deliberation UTU service team with the village apparatus, such as the Village Head, Dusun Head, and other village apparatuses. Time of implementation activities is carried out within 10 months with stages are the stages of literature study, site survey activities, feasibility study group of beneficiaries, training and opening of welding workshop, and monitoring and evaluation of welding workshop. The result of giving material about welding technique and managerial welding workshop give good input for the participant, so that the participants become understand and have motivation in running the workshop business. Direct welding technique training provides a good understanding for the participants and provides an example of direct welding techniques on job objects. Welding workshop provides new jobs for less productive people around Teuku Umar University and increase income for the beneficiaries.

Abstract

Abstract: In general, water vehicles or water transport commonly called canoes are still used in villages for fishermen to fish in the sea and in rivers. Aluminum alloy in this research using Aluminum series 5. Background of this research is to analyze the strength of TIG weld (Tungsten Inert Gas) connection in the canoe to get reliable samples and no leakage. In high TIG welding the low temperature is determined by the high-low of the electric current being flowed. The aluminum plate for the canoe is subjected to material composition testing and tensile testing to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the TIG welding joints on the aluminum series 5. TIG welding with the current variable 65, 70 and 75 Ampere. Testing specimens of 2mm thick with dimensions of 24x16 cm where the electric arc flame is generated by tungsten electrodes (non-feeding electrodes) with metal workpieces. Test results obtained include that welding on aluminum series 5 is done with AC current (Alternating Current) due to the action of cleaning the metal surface is greater. Thin metal work, TIG welding can be used without metal filler. Material composition test showed that aluminum content of 97,76% and magnesium main addition element equal to 1.753%. In tensile testing, the strong variations of current used to connect aluminum plates are 65, 70, and 75 Ampere produce different tensile strength. The highest tensile strength is generated on plate grafting using a strong current of 75 Ampere with a yield of 165.91 MPa. This is because with a strong current of 75 A, the welding liquid enters and fuses into the center of the aluminum, resulting in a strong welding joint.

Abstract

Abstract: The fuels for Diesel engines derived from petroleum of its existence the longer depleting. Starting from this, the use of biodiesel as a successor is an alternative solution. Conversion of diesel fuel for Diesel engines of heavy equipment to the other types, one of them should pay attention to emissions- related environmental pollution and fuel consumption. This research was conducted with the aim to find out the influence of loading engine against exhaust emissions and fuel consumption using diesel fuel and biodiesel B10 on engine Cummins QSK 45 c. Testing performed in the PT. Saptaindra Sejati workshop (SIS) MIA 3, km. 84, Adaro, Tanjung Tabalong, South Kalimantan, while the primary uses test equipment namely dynamometer (dynotest) Taylor DS4010. The results of testing using biodiesel in diesel fuel compared with B10 imposition engine 0 - 100% decline in average levels of nitrogen oxide (NOx) of 88% (g/kW-hr); carbon monoxide (CO) of 88% (g/kW-hr); and hydrocarbons (HC) by 80% (g/kW-hr), while the fuel consumption experienced a decrease in 0 - 7.14%.

Abstract

Abstract: The reduction of water content to a certain extent for cereals in the form of grain can be done through several methods, one of which is drying with heating. The purpose of this research is to design a prototype drying machine with a vertically screw-shaped mechanical screw. The drying machine is designed using heater and mixer working principles, wherein the heater is used for the drying process by engineering the heating air, while the mixer is used for the stirring system on the material to be dried. Tool design includes: Screw, Casing wire, Casing House and chassis. The wire casing design is based on the incoming heat flow rate and exhaust heat flow rate with the parameters of air velocity of entry and exit air velocity is known. The result of air velocity is 0.25 m2/s and the air velocity is 0.42 m2/s. Thus, the incoming heat flow rate is 0.5 kg/m3, and the outflow heat rate is 0.52 kg/m3. The volume of the contents of the wire casing of 7,5 kg/cm3. Screw designed with length (p) 60 cm, width of the upper arm (la) 28.8 cm, width of the forearm (lb) 22 cm. Wire casing is designed with length (p) 100 cm, width of upper arm (la) 50 cm, width of forearm (lb) 30 cm. The casing is designed with length (p) 100 cm, width of the upper arm (la) 70 cm, width of the forearm (lb) 50 cm, The chassis is designed with length (p) 107 cm, width of the upper arm (la) 77 cm and arm width Bottom (lb) 77 cm. And supported aids in the form of: Electric motor that serves as a driving force in the stirring system with a capacity of 450 rpm motor rotation is reduced with the transmission belt puly. Based on the results of the design has been successfully made prototype vertical dryer machine with mechanical stirring for grain.

Abstract

Abstract: A numerical simulation of single droplet phenomena is conducted using a finite volume method. Interface between different phases is tracked by using a front-tracking method. Governing equations used in present paper consist of the continuity equation, the Navier-Stokes equation and the front-tracking equation. The unsteady Navier-Stokes equations are solved implicitly using the finite volume method on staggered mesh. The interfacial term such as surface tension is negligible and the viscosity of the fluid is considered equal. The completion of pressure term is solved by Successive Over-Relaxation (SOR) method. The validation of present paper result is conducted by comparing to Tryggvasson (2012) result using explicit scheme. The advantage of this research is using implicit scheme that is unconditional stable. This research is the initial step to model a single droplet impact on solid surface. In this research will be discussed representation of interface and dynamics of interface reconstruction. Finite volume and front-tracking methods are expected to perform the problem well for more complete case.

Abstract

Abstract: Today's global market competition has spurred the producers of manufactured products to perform a variety of efficiency and continuous improvement for increasing the productivity of workers and reducing the cost of manufacture. Its aim is for helping companies to survive in the global competition. Thus, the companies can sell their products with more competitive price. Changing the conventional working system with better one - using a cellular manufacturing system - is one of the efficiency that can be done by the manufacturing companies. However the firm which had changed its conventional manual assembling system into mobile (cellular) assembling system resulted the improvement of workers knowledge from 3 up to 6 grade previously, it reduced 2 workers with the same number of work stations, increased the efficiency of assembling lines as much as 7.18%, increased worker productivity as much as 14.28% with the same production capacity, reduced Not Right First Time / NRFT as much as 37.50%, increased the Value Added Per Person / VAPP as much as 12.70%, and raised the Floor Space Utilization / FSU as much as 3.17%.

Abstract

Abstract: The size of droplet affects the evaporation of the fuel. The greater the size of droplet is also the energy of fuel evaporation. The evaporation energy is directly proportional to the size of the droplet and oxidation must be mixed homogeneously. Mixing conditions in the combustion process affect the rate of combustion. One of the conditions of combustion is the droplet to the vapor. The more perfect the evaporation process the better the combustion process. This study saw the success of combustion due to the size of droplet on the performance. The droplet produced by atomization in the form of liquid granules. The size of atomization is the determinant of burning success. The four-stroke Otto engine performance depends on the size of the atomization in order to mix well with the oxidant during combustion process. The results of the research characteristic of the machine are due to the influence of the size of the droplet seen from the generated power, torque and thermal efficiency. Characteristic features increase with decreasing the size of the droplet. Torque increased 7.9%, power generated increased 7%, and thermal efficiency increased up to 7.3%. The results of this study show size of the droplet can improve the performance of engine.

Abstract

Abstract: In this research was carried out of lead free solder sample of Sn-Cu-Ag to characterized how far the effect of Ag composition on Lead Free Solder of Sn0.7CuxAg to replace SnPb alloy. The research will be carried out such us specific gravity, melting point, micro structure, shear strength, and micro hardness value The impact was added Ag to Sn -Cu-Ag has shown that shear strength for each at 61% on material Sn-0.7Cu-1Ag,73% at material Sn-0.7Cu-1.5Ag and 94% on material Sn-Cu-2Ag. The results has shown that on Sn-0.7Cu-1Ag material getting melting point bellow Sn -Pb that is 1820C.
